IILM Convocation 2014, presided over by Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, AVSM, Vice Chief of Naval Staff



New Delhi, 17th September 2014: The Convocation of IILM for the Class of 2014 was held on 17th September 2014 at its Lodhi Road campus. Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, Vice Chief of Naval Staff presided over the ceremony and awarded diplomas and Certificates of Merit to the students.

220 students completed their post graduate studies at IILM this year.

IILM Director Dr Smitha Girija welcomed the Chief Guest Vice Admiral Lanba. Vice Admiral Lanba has an illustrious career spanning over 35 years of service in Indian Navy. He was commissioned in the executive branch of the Indian Navy, as a Navigation and Direction specialist in 1978. He has served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and as the Commandant of the National Defence College of India. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal on January 26, 2011.

Highlighting some of the achievements of IILM, Dr Girija shared with the distinguished audience that IILM is commemorating 10 years of training programmes for IAS and IPS officers this year. Almost one tenth of the IAS officers in Government of India have attended various training programmes at IILM.

In September 2013, at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York, IILM was inducted as a PRME champion business school. Only 30 business schools from all over the world have this distinction, with IILM being the only PRME Champion business school from India. IILM is also a member of the 10 member Advisory Group to the PRME Secretariat.

IILM was accorded the prestigious SAQS Accreditation by AMDISA in April 2013. SAQS is the South Asian Quality Assurance System representing high standard of achievement for management schools. Only 15 business schools in South Asia have received SAQS accreditation till date. Placement for Class 2014 has been a rewarding exercise this year, with most of the students receiving good offers. Some of our students have also started their own ventures or have joined their family business.

IILM is also launching IGNITE, an incubation center at Gurgaon campus this year. With over 30,000 sq ft area, it will be among the largest such centers in North India. It will serve as an enabler in promoting viable ideas of the budding entrepreneurs by providing support for new startups: networking within the community, accessing initial capital, guidance on going to market and navigation within the legal frame work.

Admiral Lanba praised the management and faculty members of IILM for providing excellent infrastructure and facilities to its students. He said he can well understand why IILM is rated among the top institutions in the country.

Admiral Lanba congratulated the passing out students on completion of their studies. In his address, he impressed on the students: “As you enter a new phase of your life, try to become a leader in your respective fields by leading from the front, and adapting to circumstances with sincere efforts and building a Resurgent India”. Quoting Peter F. Drucker , he highlighted “The best way to predict your own future is to create it”. This requires planning, hard work and perseverance.

Admiral Lanba concluded his address by invoking immortal poem of Noble Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore: “Where The Mind Is Without Fear… Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake”.

Mrs. Malvika Rai, Chairperson, IILM Institute for Higher Education, presented Dr. Kulwant Rai Gold and Silver medals to the meritorious students as well as to the overall performers.
