IILM Institute for Higher Education (IILM) and Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), established under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs) are conducting a joint survey to understand the existing scenario of Responsible Business Practices among top Indian organizations.

Responsible business practices entail a business organization’s commitment to ensure a positive impact on the society and environment through its operations, products or services and through its interaction with key stakeholders such as employees, customers, investors, communities and suppliers.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs of India released the National Voluntary Guidelines (NVGs) on Social, Environmental & Economic responsibilities of business in 2011.The NVGs serves as a guidance document for businesses of all size, ownership, sector, and geography to achieve the triple bottom line In 2012, subsequent to the release of the NVGs the  Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), mandated the Annual Business Responsibility Reporting (ABRR), a reporting framework based on the NVGs. Similarly  United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has a set of core values pertaining to the areas of human rights, labour standards, environment, and anti-corruption, to be embraced by organizations for responsible business. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines were also introduced globally to promote various aspects relevant to corporate regulation and governance for sustainable and holistic growth. The survey aforementioned is an attempt to capture the responsible business practices practiced in the FE 500 companies in India based on the above framework.
