22nd Convocation of IILM for Class of 2017

22nd Convocation of IILM for Class of 2017, held on August 25, 2017, presided over by Mr. Bharat Kaushal, Managing Director, Hitachi India Private Limited.

The 22nd Convocation of IILM for the Class of 2017 was held on August 25th, 2017 at its Lodhi Road, New Delhi Campus. The ceremony started with the lighting of the lamp by Mr. Bharat Kaushal and Mrs. Malvika Rai - Chairperson, IILM. Two hundred and ninety six students completed their post graduate studies at IILM in 2017 and received their Post Graduate Diplomas at the Convocation.

Dr. Smitha Girija - Director, IILM welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Bharat Kaushal, the Managing Director of Hitachi India. Mr. Kaushal has the unique distinction of being the first Indian Managing Director of Hitachi. A distinguished business professional, Mr Kaushal has over 25 years of industry experience specializing in Macroeconomic Policy, Government Advisory, Project Finance, Debt Restructuring as well as in Mergers and Acquisitions. He is currently a member of the Indo-Japan Task Force (IJTF) set-up by the two Governments and is the Convener of the Financial Strategy Group which works in close coordination with Japanese Government and private sector institutions pursuing business opportunities in India.

In her Annual Report at the Convocation, Dr. Girija highlighted the various achievements of IILM during the past year. She highlighted that based on the report and recommendations of the Peer Review Team, the Association of Management Development Institutes of South Asia (AMDISA) has awarded the prestigious SAQS Re-accreditation to IILM for a period of 5 years. The Greater Noida Campus has been re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and is in the process of NAAC accreditation. The institute has submitted the unit application for AACSB Accreditation and has been given the member status.

IILM is a member of the United Nations Global Compact Initiative – “PRME”, and has earned the coveted ‘Champion business school’ status. This year in July during the Global Forum in New York, PRME launched the India Chapter. IILM is a Co-lead along with Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and S.P.Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.

IILM has set up a Centre for Excellence in Family Business since a large number of its students have a background of family business. IILM Family Business Institute is an Institutional Member of Family Firm Institute, Chicago which is a well-known organization in the area. The Centre will take up research and training and will provide platform for discussions through conferences and seminars which will help students, alumni and parents.

Mrs. Malvika Rai, Chairperson, IILM presented Dr. Kulwant Rai Gold and Silver medals to the meritorious students.

IILM also honoured six faculty members with the “Excellence in Teaching” Award. The six faculty members who received this award are Prof. Rajkishan Nair, Prof. Ruchi Shah, Prof. Devika Sharma, Prof. Raju Majumdar, Prof. Pinky Goswami and Prof. Rahul Mishra.

Mr. Bharat Kaushal congratulated the graduands on completion of their studies and mentioned that there could not have been a more auspicious day than the day of Ganesh Chaturthi (celebrated this year on August 25 2017). He inspired the students to set a goal for themselves, take ownership of their actions and put their heart into everything they do. He encouraged them to build themselves every day and mentioned that, in life it is always necessary to “hold on your foot” as “things have their own way of finding how to reach you.”
