The Cultural Club at Lodhi Road successfully organized an evening of Kuchipudi Dance in association with SPIC MACAY, on Friday, 22nd October 2010.

Renowned Kuchipudi exponents - the husband and wife duo of Guru Jayarama Rao and Vanashree Rao, enthralled the audience with their performance. In their duets marked by perfect synchronization and harmonious balance, they represented the manly vigour - tandava - and feminine charm - lasya - of classical dance.

Kuchipudi, known for its graceful movements and its strong narrative character, is the classical dance form from the Southeast Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Sri Jayarama Rao as a Guru has trained innumerable students who are acclaimed artists to day. The duo have been honoured with many awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Andhra Pradesh Samman. Sri Rao was awarded PADMASREE in 2004 by the President of India for his contribution towards Kuchipudi Dance.

Their school The Kuchipudi Dance Academy was established in 1973, by Shri Rao to propagate this art form in North India.

All students present enjoyed the performance, and interacted with the artists. The accompanying vocalist and musicians on the Violin, hand-held cymbals and Mridangam brought the stage alive and set the mood for an memorable performance indeed.

The Club would like to thank the Management for allowing us this opportunity to come in closecontact with the rich Indian heritage. All student volunteers' work is greatly appriciated.

Zest 10

Zest 10 , an intra college cultural festival which is organized on an annual basis by IILM for the undergraduate students of IILM. The two-day program is held in two campuses, day 1 at Lodhi Road and Day 2 at Gurgaon.

Zest 2010 was a great success judging by the level of participation it had from both the colleges and degree of competition and charged atmosphere colleges. It also showcased the enormous talents of the IILM students.

The students kicked it off with mind blowing theatre performances which kept the audience rapt in attention. What was more impressive was the the second play was directed by students themselves. Their level of commitment and management skills in organizing and putting together a fantastic performance left IILM extremely proud of them.

Subsequent to this, started the Solo singing and Dance Competition and everyone was left spell-bound by the depth of performance from the participants. It was an extremely hard choice to judge the competitions and one felt that everyone was a winner. But this was not all. The big finale was the student band which they put together in a matter of less than two weeks and who knew IILM had such an in depth talent of in house drummers, guitars and soloists.

Simultaneously, on display was a Photographic Society exhibition on the 'Spirit of the Commonwealth Games'. IILM students had taken to the roads in days precedings in the wee hours of the morning to capture the mood of the CWG during sunrise and sunset which all culminated into a set of beautiful shots on display lifting every one's spirits for the upcoming games. The level of commitment shown by the students in putting together a great show was truly admirable.

Day two will be held on the 24th September at the beautiful sprawling IILM campus grounds at Gurgaon. Events like a debating extempore and quiz competition will be held where the students will showcase their intellectual talents.

Overall for the audience it was heartening to see the Zest displayed by the students in Zest 2010
