DISTINGUISHED GLOBAL THINKER AWARD 2008
Goes to Prof C K Prahlad

The IILM Institute for Higher Education is one of the reputed Business Schools in the country to impart quality education in the field of management and equip young people with knowledge and skills, which would help them make a meaningful contribution to the country facing the challenges of global competition. With a short period of time, IILM has emerged as an A+ category Business School.
 
The Institute initiated an annual award to honour an internationally reputed thought leader for his/her academic achievements. The award is named as “Distinguished Global Thinker Award”. The Selection Committee for the award consists of eminent personalities such as Dr Abid Hussian; Prof. B.B. Bhattacharya, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Prof. Deepak Nayyar, Former Vice Chancellor, Delhi University; Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh ndraprastha University, Delhi; Shri K.V. Rajan, Former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India; Smt. Malvika Rai, Chairperson, IILM; Prof. Mushirul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi; Shri Pavan K Varma, Director General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi; Shri P.C. Sen, Director, India International Centre, New Delhi; Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi and Dr. Yogendra Narain, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha.
 
The first “Distinguished Global Thinker Award” was conferred on Professor Lord Bhikhu Parekh (Centennial Professor of the London School of Economics and internationally renowned scholar and writer) at a function, at the India International Centre on September 27, 2006 at the IIC Auditorium, New Delhi by former Prime Minister of India, Shri I.K. Gujral, followed by Dr Parekh’s lecture on “Is Democracy Exportable?”.
 
The Second “Distinguished Global Thinker Award” was conferred on the father of India’s green revolution, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan on March 23, 2007 at the IILM Auditorium, New Delhi by Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman, University Grants Commission, followed by Dr Swaminathan’s lecture on “Achieving a Hunger – Free India: The Challenge Before Us”.
 
The Third “Distinguished Global Thinker Award” is being conferred on Prof C K Prahalad on March 24, 2008 by Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission. Prof C. K. Prahalad is a globally known figure and has consulted with the top management of many of the world's foremost companies. He is currently the Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor of Strategy at the Ross school of business, University of Michigan. He wears many distinguished hats, foremost that of an eminent academic and management thinker whose research specializes in corporate strategy and the role of value additions of top management in large, diversified, multinational corporations. Related to this is his role of an author of various best selling and award winning books and articles. He is also recognized as a top most business leader and world class consultant. Amongst other titles he has been awarded the title of the third most influential business thinker of this century. He also dons the hat of a distinguished speaker with a well known blunt and demanding delivery style. At the award ceremony he will deliver a lecture on“Democratizing Commerce: The challenge for the 21st century”.
 
Presiding the award ceremony, will be Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia who has been a key figure in India’s economic reforms. He was the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office, International Monetary Fund. Prior to taking up his position at the IMF, he was a Member of the Planning Commission in New Delhi as well as a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. He had previously served as Finance Secretary at Ministry of Finance, Secretary at Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce Secretary, and Special Secretary to the Prime Minister and Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. He has many publications and books to his credit and is one of the most well known figures of Contemporary India.
