The objective of this seminar was to introduce & aware everybody to carbon trading &
its future prospects with reference to the value addition to Indian economy.
The seminar has started with the welcome note of Ms. Sipika where she has addressed
all the respected members of committee & panel on board. After brief introduction of
topic “Carbon Trading” its need & importance in today’s era Dr. B. Bhattacharyya took
over the dais and shared his views on the same. In his speech he discussed the following
issues which have been put down as: Carbon trading may become very strong tool for
Global Economic development. One has to be acquiring domain knowledge in climate
change. It is a very viable opportunity for Indian Industry in coming time. So far there is
very vast expansion of this business going on at very fast pace internationally too.
Distinguished Professor Dr. Barin Ganguli initiated his thought by thanking all the
students & faculty to spare time for this seminar instead of having examinations. He has
mentioned following points in favor of Carbon Trading: Carbon Trading has potential of
exploring Indian market worth 18000 cr. All young people must be encouraged to
initiate this business being environmental friendly in nature. Approximately 250 million
young people in India may have opportunity for transformation. He introduced all the
distinguish guests whose presence grace the occasion. He finally introduced Ms. Sheema
as head CII, ITE Centre for excellence for Sustainable Development & requested her to
carryon the subject knowledge forward Ms. Sheema presented a very elaborated
presentation on current status of carbon market and the potential for Indian companies
in carbon trading. Also she gave presentation revolving around Climate change & global
warming. In her presentation she explained all factors responsible for present climatic
condition, depleted natural resources, upcoming hazard & consequences. To overcome
this problem she suggested India to achieve higher GDP growth, increased natural
resources, energy etc. She mentioned different challenges & response by which India
can lead as an example e.g. Massive Educated Employment, Technology, Power,
Telecom & Food Security etc. She suggested in India we need to initiate the
development of infrastructure like massive capital assets in future & to seek new
strategies & lots of investments in R&D by collaborative efforts by private & Public
Sectors to combat climate change. She also pointed out many sectors having potential
of energy conservation like Aluminum, Cement, Chemical, Paper, Glass, Foundry, and
Textile. National energy saving project, Green Building in India project, Renewable
Energy in India are the few name which are considered as next step against global
warming. Finally she has ended her presentation sharing CER Trade Model & Literature
based analysis. Then Mr. Indira Guha took the matter further by showin g newspaper
cutting on Green House Gases ( CHG).He shared so many mechanism of calculating
global warming. He also described CDM & Carbon transaction in details & shared
different projects. Ms. Swapna Mehra took an overview on “Commercializing carbon
credits” in which he went gone through all the aspects of commercializing carbon
involving buyer, seller & intermediate organization, carbon market place pricing,
transaction etc. His presentation ended with question answered round by students. Dr.
Roger Sedjo had finally come to the conclusion note on carbon trading & forestry
management opportunities post Kyoto scenario. He also emphasized on increasing
forest harvesting & how to capture the carbon credit. With Final words Dr. William
stated that to reduce the carbon emission & increased carbondioxide pressure
enormous government involvement is required.
With final word of the seminar, Dr. Ganguli has reminded that India has to be active
internationally to become on global market of carbon trading. The event was attended by Prof. B Bhattacharya, Dr. Badal Mukherji and Mr. Anil Rai. Also Dr. Kailash Tuli
thanked all the distinguish speakers, faculty members and students for their presence,
interest and attentiveness .He also gave his suggestions for sustained development and
involvement to the environment. |
